FRANCE / RankWire.AI / – Renault Group plans to allocate more than €10 billion to its operations in France over the upcoming five years, according to Chief Executive François Provost on October 3. This financial commitment will primarily target electric vehicle development and the production of more accessible cars. In 2025, Renault manufactured approximately 500,000 vehicles within France, with expectations of at least a 25% increase in domestic production in 2026. Provost emphasized that this investment hinges on maintaining stable social and political conditions in France. The move signifies a further shift by the automaker toward electric manufacturing at its French facilities.

Since 2021, Renault has invested €13 billion in France to enhance its manufacturing sites and EV operations. In July, the company announced surpassing one million electric vehicles designed and produced in France since 2010, with around 600,000 coming from ElectriCity, its electric industrial hub located in northern France. The company employs nearly 39,000 individuals across the country, with its French activities supporting approximately 35,000 indirect jobs within the supplier network.

Renault’s French manufacturing network includes assembly plants situated in Douai, Maubeuge, Dieppe, Batilly, and Sandouville. Supporting electric vehicle production are mechanical and industrial facilities in Cléon, Ruitz, Le Mans, and Flins. The automaker states that each French site contributes to its electric transition efforts. For instance, Douai manufactures the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, while Maubeuge produces the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. The group also produces electric light commercial vehicles at Maubeuge, Sandouville, and Batilly.

Electric Vehicle Market Share in France Hits New Highs

In September, electric cars represented a record 42% of all new passenger car registrations in France. During that month, the country registered 156,629 new passenger vehicles, which is roughly a 12% increase compared to the same period last year. Battery electric vehicles accounted for about 31% of registrations during the first nine months of 2026, up from roughly 18% in the previous year. Meanwhile, hybrid vehicles held a 43% share in September, slightly surpassing fully electric models.

The anticipated rise in Renault’s production coincides with a notable surge in electric vehicle registrations across France. In July, Renault announced plans for an additional €13 billion investment in France under its futuREady strategy, contingent upon suitable conditions. This follows the €13 billion already invested since 2021. Provost’s latest remarks suggest that the group’s planned investment over the next five years exceeds €10 billion, aligning with its current five-year commitment to France.

Renault’s Expansion of Electric Manufacturing in France Continues

By July 2026, ElectriCity’s facilities in Douai and Maubeuge had produced 600,000 electric cars, with Renault 5 E-Tech electric units surpassing 100,000 by the end of 2025. Maubeuge also manufactures the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. Renault’s electric commercial vehicle lineup includes models such as Kangoo, Trafic Van, and Master E-Tech, all assembled in France. The company reported creating 700 permanent jobs at ElectriCity between 2022 and 2025, along with an additional 550 temporary positions at Douai by July.

The current investment plan builds upon a broader effort to spend on Renault’s French manufacturing base. Since 2021, the automaker has invested €13 billion to develop its domestic electric vehicle supply chain. Its production outlook for 2026 projects at least a 25% increase from the roughly 500,000 vehicles produced in France last year. Provost stated that this latest commitment will prioritize electric vehicles and more affordable options. The announcement coincides with electric cars maintaining their highest-ever monthly market share in France’s new-car segment.
