ISLAMABAD / RankWire.AI / – Pakistan saw another increase in petrol prices on October 6 following its daily fuel rate review. The cost of petrol rose by Rs0.88 per litre to Rs393.64, building on the upward movement from three days prior. Conversely, high-speed diesel experienced a decline, dropping by Rs1.88 to Rs397.76 per litre. This latest adjustment came after an October 3 decision that raised both key fuels. At that time, petrol was set at Rs392.76 and high-speed diesel at Rs399.64 per litre.

On October 3, petrol’s price increased by Rs2.10 per litre from Rs390.66, while high-speed diesel gained Rs0.30 from Rs399.34. The Petroleum Division stated that the review reflected changes in global fuel prices. Factors such as international market rates, benchmark prices, premiums, and related costs are integral to the pricing process. These components remain central to Pakistan’s fuel review system. The increase on October 3 served as the basis for the subsequent revision that took effect on October 6.
The decision on October 6 added Rs0.88 to petrol, raising its price from Rs392.76 to Rs393.64 per litre. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel reversed its prior increase, falling from Rs399.64 to Rs397.76. When compared to October 2, petrol is now Rs2.98 per litre higher, while diesel has decreased by Rs1.58. The federal government continues to impose taxes and duties of Rs114 per litre on petrol, with the equivalent on high-speed diesel being Rs100 per litre.
International Market Trends Drive Daily Fuel Price Changes
Since July, Pakistan has adopted a daily fuel pricing system, replacing the previous weekly revision method that started in March. This approach ties domestic fuel prices directly to fluctuations in international markets and other key inputs. Prior to this change, fuel prices were typically reviewed over longer periods. The current system allows for individual movements in petrol and diesel prices on the same day, as seen on October 6, when petrol increased while diesel declined.
Though both fuels are below their peak values earlier this year, the prices still show significant declines from those highs. Petrol reached Rs458.41 per litre on April 3, and high-speed diesel peaked at Rs520.35. In early March, petrol was close to Rs266 per litre, and diesel was around Rs281 per litre before their respective rises. As of October 6, petrol is Rs64.77 below its April peak, and diesel is Rs122.59 lower. Both fuels have experienced sharp drops from their maximum levels recorded in April.
Petrol Prices Rise, Diesel Prices Drop After October 3 Adjustment
Petrol is a primary fuel for private transportation, including small cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws across Pakistan. In contrast, high-speed diesel is mainly used for heavy transport, power plants, and large generators. These two fuels serve different sectors of the country’s transport and energy needs. Both are also major contributors to Pakistan’s petroleum revenue based on sales volume. Recent price revisions have caused these fuels to move in different directions on several occasions. While both increased on October 3, the October 6 revision saw petrol’s price rise again and diesel’s fall.
Currently, petrol costs Rs393.64 per litre and high-speed diesel Rs397.76, as of October 6, replacing the previous levels of Rs392.76 and Rs399.64 from October 3. Petrol’s price has increased by Rs0.88, whereas diesel has decreased by Rs1.88. These latest figures continue the trend of frequent daily adjustments observed throughout October, affecting motorists and commercial operators under the revised rates for this period.
